The Vauxhall Cresta PA was introduced in October 1957 and represented a dramatic departure from its very round bull nose predecessor the PA remains one of the most distinctive British saloons of the post-war era. American themed the US culture exerted an increasingly powerful influence over British tastes. The PA combined American inspired styling with dimensions better suited to European roads. The very first PA’s had the distinctive dog-leg’ windscreen, pronounced tail fins, elaborate grille, and the “3 piece” rear windscreen that was phased out after a year or two. A generous bench seat to the front allowed 6-person seating in comfort. Other features of the early models are the stainless-steel gutter rails, split-top rear indicators, narrow front quarter lights, early boot mouldings. Powered by Vauxhall’s super sweet 2,262 cc overhead-valve straight-six, producing approximately 82.5bhp, coupled to a three-speed all-synchromesh manual transmission operated via a steering-column change.
